If Night Was Day

Smiling lips speak, what slips out is not becoming
bright lies holding dark intentions cut through me
your glistening eyes weep the image cast is haunting
it's never fading and buried deep
I return the gaze vacant, withdrawn and wandering
  I return what you gave useless hope and nothing to keep
I ask nothing of you as you take all I can give
if night was day this is the way to live
others would see pain I try to see it as a gift
there's a lesson here I'm just trying to find it
maybe to take my own advise and listen to logic
or see that I'm a hypocrite, like you a slave to what I feel
  no one can deny this not when it feels so real
